Butch Cooper, chef d'un gang de hors-la-loi qui a dévalisé un train, a été emprisonné. Se faisant passer pour un mauvais garçon appâté par le butin, l'agent fédéral Smitty l'aide à s'évader et l'accompagne dans l'Utah. Mais arrivé à l'endroit ou le butin a été enterré, la cache est vide.
